Counseling Resources

Portland's Men's Resource Center offers counseling for men individually, with their partner or family, and group therapy for men. Common issues addressed include relationship problems, depression, life transitions, lack of focus or direction, recovery from childhood abuse and anger and domestic abuse.

Individual Therapy
Progress toward personal goals; work through depression, anxiety, or other emotional concerns; progress through life transitions.

Couples Therapy
Develop skills for conflict resolution, facilitate communication, and increase intimacy.

Gay Men's Counseling Services
Counseling geared to the specific needs and issues of gay men.

Groups for Men

Men's Personal Growth
Many men grew up lacking positive male role models or had a negative peer culture, and many men currently lack healthy male relationships. This group is for men wanting to explore issues of personal growth in a truly supportive male atmosphere. While subject matter is determined by members, topics typically include self-esteem, relationships, parenting, accessing personal power, emotional healing, and effective communication.

Domestic Violence Intervention Groups
Explore beliefs, power and control issues, and accountability. Resolve conflicts and anger without abuse. Most men participate in this program for a minimum of six months.

Anger Management Group
A group for men who have expressed anger inappropriately. The group meets for a minimum of 18 weeks. Group goals are: 1) learn to manage anger effectively, 2) stop violence or the threat of violence, 3) develop self-control over thoughts and actions, and 4) provide and receive healthy support among members. Includes weekly homework and an evidence-based participant workbook.
